Alphainventions.com and Fiddlewiddle.com

February 17, 2009 zachdude1094 9 comments

I just discoverd the website Alphainventions.com a couple minutes ago when I went to look at my site stats, and learned that it had given a newly posted post alread 15 views. When I want to Alphainventions I found that it circulated different websites within a single page, so that you would see many websites, and those websites would get many views, and future readers. It’s pretty cool, check out Alphainventions’s WordPress blog Here.

I also found a website called FiddleWiddle.com, which does basically the same thing, get your blog out to many readers. I have yet to see how well these two services work, but I’ve heard great things about them.

Mikogo v. 2.0.3?

February 17, 2009 zachdude1094 2 comments

I like Mikogo, it’s a great screen sharing app, as you’ve probably read about me saying before. I wont post this press, due tomorrow, this time, because it’s really not that interesting. Really the only parts of it that relate to the new release are three two line paragraphs in the middle of the one page article. Here are the three paragraphs:

“In an effort to save time and money, businesses continue to seek ways to accomplish tasks via online collaboration, and hence a reliable real-time screen sharing solution becomes the gem of corporate Web tools. Take for example tech support personnel remotely assisting clients, sales reps conducting product demos, or consultants making Web presentations.

In fact anyone wishing to collaborate via the Internet is in need of the most reliable solution to real-time collaboration in order to get the task done professionally and efficiently. Clearly this depends heavily on the speed of the desktop sharing technology involved.

With Mikogo’s improved speed and core technology, businesses have a solution that will reliably and quickly transmit any screen contact over the Web, including high-definition graphics and images.”

Basically they’re saying because there is “instant screen build up” Mikogo users should now be able to see their colaborators’s screen sooner. That’s not the case. I feel bad about saying all of these things about the new Mikogo release, when they gave me the press release a day early, and always respond to my emails, but I need to say this, I’m trying to no have a biased review. Today in Lego practice programming was still excruciatingly slow, despite the new “faster” “instant screen build up” feature. I know this is probably mostly due to the fact that my computer is getting relatively old, so it can only handle the transfer of so much data at a certain speed. And the fact that I was running Skype, Firefox and a few other apps at the same time didn’t help the situation at all. It’s not Mikogo’s fault that programming is slow, that the whole screen refreshing speed is slow, it’s more my computer. Another weird thing that was happening was that Mikogo said I was still in a meeting after I had left, and said I wasn’t in the meeting when I was actually present.

You can draw your own conclusion from this article.

Make Firefox look like Google Chrome.

This solution is fairly widely known, if you do a Google search for it many sites will come up. If you’ve ever used Google’s fairly new browser, Chrome, you will have probably noticed that the tab bar, unlike most browsers, is in the top menu bar, the bar with the three buttons to minimize, restore or close the current window. I would have to say that particular feature is definitely one of the best features of Chrome, besides saving a lot of space, it looks a lot cleaner too. Now how do you do this? There are two ways you can do this, the first is to download an addon called Chromifox, which gives Firefox the look and feel of Google Chrome, or you can download Chrome Package, which I think is the better of the two. Here’s why. Chromnifox, while it does give you the look and feel of Chrome, if only moves the tab bar to the top, above everything else, so you don’t gain any space at all. Chrome Package on the other hand, take the tab bar and melds it with the menu bar, so that you do gain extra space. And besides, Chrome Package looks better. Now if you want to download and use Chrome Package you will have to get an account at the download site, because Chrome package is an excremental, or beta, addon. To do that all you need to do is click the Register link on the right side of the screen, then fill out the form fields. Once that’s done you should be able to log into your account, and download Chrome Package. Because Chrome Package is an excremental addon, it comes with all of the same risks of downloading any beta program, so be careful. I for one have never had any problems with any beta addons from Mozilla, so I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you.

When you go too far…

Want FaceBook on your TV? Your Not Alone” By Carrie-Ann Skinner.
You know what? I think this is a great idea! because those of you who do Facebook, excessively, aren’t spending enough time on it! let’s make our TV’s another way to access it! That’s genius! another way for us to read the endless and boring posts from our excessive ammount of  “friends”, most of which we don’t even know!
Now for those of you who can’t pick up sarcasm just by reading it, that was all sarcasm. Why do we need another way to connect to a social network that will probably never benefit us in the least? maybe I’m thinking of Twitter, and correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Facebook a place to post a short, 200 charectar or less posts from or to your “friends”, so that they can read something they don’t care about? Seriously, why, if you do at all, use Facebook, or other social networks? it doesn’t help you communicate better, and in my expierence, it doesn’t improve on anything at all. I don’t see the merit in social networks, they’re a waste of time. This is going too far. Please post your thoughts, I would love to hear why or why you don’t use social networks.

Mac Pro

Most of you have probably heard about the MacBook Pro, which, for those of you who don’t know, is basically Apple’s most advanced laptop, but you, like me, might have never heard of the Mac Pro, until now. The Mac Pro is not to be confused with the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Pro is a laptop, while the Mac Pro is a desktop computer, and besides, once you hear the specs of the Mac Pro, you wont be able to mistake it for a laptop. For starters, the lowest processor that you can get on this computer is a single 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, and that’s downgrading, which subtracts $500 from the cost. The default processor, or should I say, processors, is this: Two 2.8GHx Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, that’s 8 cores. From there you can then upgrade to Two 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor, then you can go up to Two 3.2GHx Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors, that’s serious speed and performance. Unfortunately, Mac computers are more expensive, which I knew, but didn’t fully realize until now so upgrading it’s components is an expensive ordeal, so making these upgrades is expensive (See my next paragraph on how a laptop price comparison went). Now let’s move onto memory. In this computer, the lowest memory, or RAM you can get is 2GB, the highest, 32GB. 32GB of RAM is amazing, but unfortunately adds $9,100. Just that gives you an idea on how expensive this computer really is. Since we’re on the memory subject, lets move to hard drives. This computer has 4 hard drive bays (which means up to four hard drives can be used on this computer at any one time). Each hard drive bay in the Mac Pro has the capacity for 1TB (TeraByte(1,000 GB)) of storage. You can also have up to two 16x SuperDrives in this computer, which adds $100.00.
This computer is not something you would get for the heck of it, this computer has some serious power, speed and amazing performance. Head on over to the Mac Pro’s Apple page to play with this computers hardware, and to see what the price comes out to.

I went to Apple, selected a 15″ MacBook Pro, with a Dual Core 2.6GHz Processor, 320GB Serial ATA Hard Drive and 4GB of RAM, which came out to $2,149. I went to Dell and selected an INSPIRON 1525, which had similar specs to the MacBook Pro. The INSPIRON 1525 had a 2.0GHz processor, a little weaker than the MacBook’s processor, 4GB RAM and 320GB SATA Hard Drive. As you can see, this computer is similar to the MacBook Pro, with a few exceptions. This Dell INSPIRON 1525 computer, came out to $1,088, less than half of the MacBook pro. The MacBook Pro will probably have somewhat better performance, due to the fact that it’s hardware is of better quality, but I’ve always used a PC, and whether or not a PC’s parts are inferior to a Mac’s, I still like the PC.
